The College of Education at Auburn University announces an Assistant Professor tenure-track position in the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Counseling.

The Counselor Education program area includes four CACREP accredited programs. This includes master’s programs in School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, and a doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision. In addition, the department houses programs in Counseling Psychology ( APA approved), and Special Education. This position is primarily focused on the School Counseling program, with the expectation that the candidate will also be able to contribute to the other counseling programs in the department. We are seeking candidates with demonstrated experience in School Counseling including counseling, supervision, research, and teaching. The candidate must hold a professional school counselor certificate/license or be eligible for certification/licensure in the state of Alabama. The candidate will need to hold a PhD in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited institution (by the start date).

Candidates will be required to demonstrate teaching and professional experiences that contribute to the School Counseling specialization area and other foundation courses in counselor education. This should include teaching and supervision experience in clinical practice courses (practicum, internship) and student mentoring. The ability to bring innovative approaches and skills to assisting with administration of the School Counseling program is also highly desired. Area of research focus is open, but strong consideration will be given to candidates whose research focus integrates school counseling, social justice, and advocacy. This includes the ability to demonstrate evidence of an established research program, including funded research activities. The candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to contribute to and enhance the Counselor Education programs’ mission to integrate advocacy, social justice, cultural competence, and ethical practice into the preparation of counseling professionals. This includes demonstrated engagement in professional service and leadership in counseling and/or community organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

(1) earned doctorate (by start date) in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program; (2) earned Master’s degree in Counseling from a CACREP accredited program; (3) experience working as a school counselor; (4) evidence of counseling, supervision, and teaching experience in counselor education; (5) evidence of ability to contribute to and maintain a record of high quality research and scholarship; (6) evidence of ability to engage in professional service, leadership and advocacy; (7) evidence of the ability to engage in the integration of advocacy, social justice, cultural competence, and ethical practice into the preparation of counseling professionals; (8) must hold a professional school counselor certificate/license, or be eligible for certification/licensure in the state of Alabama.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements in the U.S. at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue to work legally for the proposed term of employment

Desired Qualifications

(1) earned Master’s degree in School Counseling from a CACREP accredited program (2) demonstrated experience in securing funding for research and program activities; (3) administrative and professional experiences related to school counseling; (4) experience in counselor education curriculum evaluation and program development; (5) School Counseling experience at the secondary education level; (6) experience in teaching in traditional and online instructional methods; (7) experience or familiarity with the CACREP accreditation process; (8) licensure for supervision or eligibility for supervision license is highly desired.
