The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has a postdoctoral research associate position immediately available. The research focus of our laboratory is on the pathogenesis of atherogenesis, coronary artery disease, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease due to hypertension and hyperhomocysteinemia. Postdoc is needed to conduct and coordinate research activities with a focus on structure and mechanogating mechanism of Piezo1 channels and mechano-regulation of vascular smooth muscle cells and kidney podocytes by adding setups for Piezo channel recording and AFM. He/she will be responsible for the design and implementation of experiments involving specialized research procedures and management requirement from NIH. The employee will also be expected to help conceptualize new projects, generate preliminary work, and serve as co-investigator for additional projects funded or to be funded in the cardiovascular-kidney group of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.
Preferred Hiring Standards: Applicants should have:
PhD in pharmacology or biological sciences
More than 6 years of relevant research experience in biological science
Proved skills in the field of structure and mechanogating mechanism of Piezo1 channels
Skillful in patch clam, in vivo imaging, AFM
More than 10 scientific publications in prestigious peer-reviewed journals with at least 5 as the first author.
This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
