Assistant Director, Faculty Development



Job Summary: The Assistant Director, Faculty Development will administer programs, events, activities, digital and other resources, communications, and budget for Faculty Development for the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at Texas Christian University. The Assistant Director also supports relevant Burnett School of Medicine committees and collaborative processes to ensure efficacious faculty development programming for SOM faculty across their academic careers. The Assistant Director represents the program on collaborative projects with a range of faculty and staff in other units engaged in faculty development activities (including the SOM curriculum teams, Office of Assessment, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and academic deans and chairs). The Assistant Director will be a key member of the Faculty Development Team, with knowledge of and commitment to School of Medicine faculty and faculty development work, rooted in TCU's Teaching Scholar Model, faculty professional development activity, and the current contexts of higher education. Duties & Essential Job Functions: 1. Supports the Director of Faculty Development in planning and implementation of programming for the School of Medicine, and provides leadership for programming.
2. Monitors and analyzes needs of the program for development and collaborates with school of medicine stakeholders to identify and deliver solutions for these needs, including regular meetings with the Director of Faculty Development and other stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and implement programming effectively.
3. Oversees and manages all School of Medicine faculty development events and meetings.
4. Develops procedures for faculty development programming operations.
5. Facilitates collaboration of faculty, administration and external partners to plan and implement faculty development programming for the School of Medicine and its clinical partners.
6. Works independently to research, update, and expand faculty development resources in response to current contexts and needs.
7. Supports the Director of Faculty Development in planning and facilitating new faculty trainings prior to the start of each academic year, particularly in areas related to teaching and learning.
8. Serves as program resource for School of Medicine faculty development events and services, including but not limited to writing accountability groups, peer-observation of teaching, inclusive teaching resources, leadership resources for chairs and deans, faculty portfolio resources, and teaching awards.
9. Designs asynchronous faculty development content using learning management systems and eLearning authoring tools.
10. Assesses and evaluates faculty development programming efficacy in regards to cost, attendance, and successes and assists the director with developing and maintaining a comprehensive evaluation plan for continued program improvement.
11. Prepares faculty development programming reports as needed.
12. Manages faculty development webpages, and contributes to the department's monthly newsletter, communications, and other web presences, including creating, managing and updating faculty resource library and toolkits.
13. Provides instruction to faculty and staff regarding utilization of learning management technologies, and assists with technology needs for department.
14. Prepares/manages the faculty development budget with the Senior Associate Dean.
15. Prepares applications for continuing medical education (CME) credit and works with third party resources to accredit faculty development programs.
16. Communicates and collaborates with School of Medicine partners to expand school resources and development offerings.
17. Trains and supervises the team of faculty development coordinators in development, creation and delivery of school of medicine faculty development programming and evaluation of faculty development programming.
18. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience : • Bachelor’s Degree
• 4 plus years’ experience in program management and event planning. Preferred Education & Experience: • Master’s Degree
• Experience working in an academic higher education program. Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: • None Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training: • None Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems.
• Knowledge of eLearning Authoring Software.
• Knowledge of design and video software preferred.
• Skill in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Skill in strong oral and written communication.
• Skill in strong organizational skills including management of timelines, events and budgets.
• Skill in using interpersonal and communication skills, including tact and diplomacy.
• Ability to designing and develop workshops and training for in-person and online presentations.
• Ability to maintain an established work schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative to generate a daily schedule and work flow. Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations): • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs. Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
• This role is an in-person and on-campus position.
