The Assistant Director for Stewardship and Donor Recognition is responsible for supporting the development, management, and execution of Syracuse University’s campus-wide donor recognition programs including the Hill Society, Lubin Society, and 1870 Society.

This role has a core focus on operations and internal procedures and requires a mix of tasks including robust administration, planning and project management. She/he is responsible for stewardship at all stages (qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and post-gift) of the donor life cycle as it relates to the recognition programs both current and future.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Donor Relations, the Assistant Director will collaborate with numerous internal constituencies to execute strategies for effective engagement and stewardship of all current and future University recognition programs that enhance the experiences of donors at all levels. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with inter-departmental project management, donor facing stewardship role preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

  • Experience communicating one-on-one with donors or customers to ensure their positive experience with your organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact well with others.
  • Analytical, well-organized, ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, and consistently meets all deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects that are both data driven and relationship driven.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to initiate and complete projects and provide donor support with limited supervision, exercising good judgement.
  • Familiarity with CRM databases such as Blackbaud.
  • Prior experience with donor recognition.
Responsibilities
Create and implement processes, logistics and support for the marketing, communications, and stewardship of donors for all current and future recognition programs. Implement systems to ensure all donor touchpoints are consistent and fit within the overall solicitation, stewardship, and communication calendar in partnership with colleagues across the University. Ensure compliance with university brand standards.

Develop, plan, and implement strategy and content for central stewardship initiatives of all donor constituencies, including giving society members, to ensure consistency across all messaging platforms for donors. Develops strategy for stewardship at all stages (qualification, cultivation, solicitation and post-gift) of the donor life cycle as it relates to the recognition programs This includes developing metrics for successful campaigns and actively collaborating with the Executive Director of Donor Relations and the Donor Relations team in developing content and identifying platforms.

Serve as a point of contact for all donor societies, including acting as a forward-facing concierge for donors. Coordination of giving society special events and incentives, and how these pieces are part of an overall stewardship and University-wide communications calendar. Work as a liaison to coordinate efforts with other Advancement and External Affairs teams, including Philanthropic Engagement and Major Events.

Assist in the maintenance of donor and fund records as it relates to the ability to develop reports and metrics to track the effectiveness of recognition and stewardship strategies. Report results of all stewardship efforts in the CITRUS / CRM database. Ensure the accuracy of data entry and maintenance and updating of records.
