Position Summary

This position will work directly with the Director of Social Justice Education to develop, coordinate, facilitate, administer, assess, and evaluate the CODE program and serve as a liaison to campus departments and offices. The Assistant Director has a primary role of supporting the mission and goals of Northern Illinois University ( NIU ) and Academic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Additionally, the Assistant Director will have supervision of a Graduate Research Assistant, student interns and student CODE Peer educators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Assistant Director are primarily performed on campus focused on social justice education. However, travel to other campus units, off-campus locations, organizations, and/or engagement with off-campus constituencies to provide educational workshops to external constituencies may be required. The workplace is in an office environment and does not involve any unusual risks or discomforts.

Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

1. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
2. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
3. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
4. Skill in oral and written communication.
5. Ability to work effectively with staff, the public, and outside constituency groups.
6. Ability to organize and multi-task.
7. Ability to supervise and knowledge of administrative concepts and methods.
8. Ability to utilize various computer software packages.
9. Ability to work independently and exercise judgment in order to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems.

Preferred Qualifications (Civil Service)

· Master’s Degree in higher education, psychology, or sociology.
· Experience working with racial healing circles.
· Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with partners and sponsors in program development and execution in higher education.
· Engagement in inclusive educational training with underserved populations (i.e., undocumented, LGBTQIA+, racial/ethnic populations)
· Three (3) experience working with students, professional staff, and/or higher education institutions on diversity and inclusion initiatives.
· Three (3) demonstrated ability to interface with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff.
· Knowledge of identity development theories and practices.
· Knowledge of training development tools, techniques, trends, and theories.
· Experience with Racial Healing and Restorative Justice Practices.
· Proficiency developing, executing, and editing podcasts.
· Commitment to serving as a contributing team member
· Ability to foster and develop good interpersonal relationships and exhibit a cooperative attitude with diverse individuals.
