Job Summary:

Supports the Athletics department efforts to promote marketing and publicize athletics events to LBCC Campus and Centers, and Linn and Benton communities. Develops, executes, and promotes game-day activities including photography, video production, writing press releases, social media, and other various marketing resources and strategies.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Must be a current Linn Benton Community College student in good standing and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of college level writing and communication coursework, and experience using Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint is preferred. Experience using video and camera equipment is preferred. Experience using social media and instant messaging to connect with students is highly desired.

The student must agree and adhere to all conditions of the Learn and Earn Student Worker program. Department of Institutional Equity and Student Engagement is responsible for assessing eligibility and participation in Learn and Earn employment.

Knowledge and Skills:
Requires good organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills. Must have general office skills and be comfortable using computers, video equipment, camera equipment and other technology. Requires strong communication skills to interact effectively with people of varying educational levels and cultural backgrounds. Knowledge of the LBCC Albany campus is preferred. Students with demonstrated computer experience, word processing, accurate typing and spelling are preferred.

Abilities: Must be able to handle multiple tasks and interruptions. Must be able to stay on task and complete tasks as assigned. Requires patience, good listening skills. Must have the ability to implement, discuss, and maintain established rules and boundaries using tact and diplomacy. Must be able to keep confidences and protect confidentiality. Must be able to keep conversations and interactions with students on a professional level. Requires ability to work quietly and speak in quiet voice to avoid distracting others. Must be able to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and student-athletes. Must be a team player who can work both cooperatively and independently. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals from all cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Position involves periods of extended standing, plus light to medium work including stooping, kneeling, and lifting and carrying of light to medium weight materials (10 to 50 pounds). Requires normal hand-eye and arm, hand, finger dexterity sufficient to clean and maintain equipment. Requires good visual acuity. Must be able to operate a computer and communicate effectively in person and over the phone.

Work is performed indoors with little or no exposure to safety and health hazards. Work performed in a high traffic physical education facility, which can be noisy at times. Seasonal work outdoors with potential for exposure to inclement weather conditions. Extensive time spent in close contact with people, some of whom may have disabilities and easily distressed or agitated. Occasional evening or weekends hours may be required.

Essential Duties:
  1. Assists with general publicity and promotion of athletics events to the LBCC campus communities and communities within Linn and Benton counties.
  2. Assists with photography, videography, graphic design, social media feeds and website content related to marketing and promotion of athletics.
  3. Responsible for the development and execution of promotional activities related to home athletic events such as, spectator contests, giveaways, partnerships with outside organizations, etc.
  4. Plans and organizes outreach activities and communications to college students, staff and faculty, as well as the broader community, utilizes social media, LBLive, email, fliers, posters, website, etc.
  5. Prepares marketing, promotional and special event materials, including print, video, website, social media, and related activities.
  6. Writes athletic event recap stories, creates postings for website and social media feeds. Independently creates feature stories, with video and graphics to highlight athletics, individual teams, coaches and student-athletes.
  7. Assists in writing press releases and other public relations materials.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
