Sign-on Bonus of 5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid quarterly over the first year of employment (Minimum of $1,800+ for Veterinary Technicians).

Job Summary:

Join the world of specialty veterinary care by joining UW Veterinary Care's (UWVC)! This position is roughly a 50/50 split between the Dentistry & Oral Surgery service and floating to support the other UWVC small animal services. Each day is different, supporting patients and their owners in this unique role! You will have the opportunity to learn about many specialty services and increase your nursing skills in this position. The position requires initiative to independently follow through with technical responsibilities. Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1) Oversees daily receiving schedules, provides assistance and initiates changes as needed.
2) Develops knowledge and responsibility in areas of specialization to include maintenance of special equipment, instructing others in use and care, assisting clinician and students in procedures.
3) Anticipates needs of clinicians, staff and students during procedures and in primary animal care.
4) Assists in the instruction of professional veterinary students and training of entry level Veterinary Technicians as requested.
5) Contributes to and participates in team building by assisting in problem solving activities.

Tasks:
  • a. Administer sedation and monitor patients
  • b. Capture charges for each appointment
  • c. Client communication
  • d. Disinfects exam room and equipment
  • e. Maintain appointment waiting list
  • f. Participate in rotating on-call shifts as needed
  • g. Patient restraint
  • h. Perform phlebotomy and sample collection
  • i. Restock exam room/order product when needed
  • j. Schedule appointments
  • k. Set-up and take-down for procedures

Qualifications:

This position is posted at Vet Tech levels 1, 2 and 3. Level is determined by qualifications based on type of prior experience:

To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or awaiting to sit for the CVT exam, or some CVT working experience with no specialization.

To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 2 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.

To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.

License/Certification:

Preferred
CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician
or eligible to obtain within 12 months

Work Schedule:

Flexible schedule made one month in advance. Generally scheduled Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM.

Flexibility to cover various shifts as needed. Some holidays and weekends may be required, based on needs of the unit. On-call hours as required by the hospital.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
