Job Summary:

The Department of Population Health Sciences is part of the School of Medicine and Public Health at UW Madison. The Department provides leadership and assistance throughout the state and has a long history in providing educational resources and information related to public health and prevention.

The Communications Specialist position supports the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPCP) at the Department of Health Services (DHS) and will work collaboratively with tobacco prevention and control partners to (1) identify and coordinate educational communication strategies that raise awareness of tobacco prevention and control policies and programs and (2) increase awareness, engagement and utilization of the programs. This position will connect the resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison related to health communications, environmental change and public health policy with health professionals, community organizations, and coalitions throughout Wisconsin. This position will provide leadership to the planning and implementation of a statewide communications plan for Wisconsin's tobacco control efforts.

Responsibilities:

Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.
  • 25% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • 15% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
  • 15% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • 25% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • 20% Serves as contract administrator, providing project management and overseeing the execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:

3 years of communications experience required.
Prior experience either working at or with an advertising agency is preferred.
Professional health communications experience preferred.
Background or experience in public health and/or tobacco prevention and control knowledge preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with media, marketing and public relations professionals.
Self motivated, organized, systems thinker.
Ability to work concurrently on multiple tasks, projects and assignments.
Ability to work with diverse audiences and multiple stakeholders.
Experience working with short deadlines in dynamic environment.
Advanced knowledge and skill in the use of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other Microsoft and Adobe software.
Webpage software knowledge desired.
