SUNY Empire State College was established in 1971 by
Dr. Ernest Boyer as a distinctive statewide institution

SUNY Empire State College seeks a part-time (.50) Specialist for
Academic Support (State Title: Staff Assistant) to provide online
and onsite direct tutoring service in areas of business and
economics (accounting, corporate finance, micro and macro, etc.)
and study skills. In addition, this candidate will assist in
development and delivery of new academic support resources, provide
embedded support within courses and support Academic Support
leadership with managing services and programs as needed.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a
statewide academic support team, value a student-centered approach
to supporting learning and be willing to partner with faculty on
learning activity design and support. Specific experience
supporting post-traditional students and a diverse community is
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US university or
comparable non-US university with relevant content
- Experience with tutoring students at the college level.
- Excellent and effective communication and organizational
- Ability to work within a collaborative academic
- Desire and skills to engage with a diverse student body.
- Knowledge of adult learning, learning technologies and online
- Experience with computer databases and web-based communications
- Master's degree related to a business discipline.
- Previous college teaching experience.
- Ability to assist students with writing assignments.
- This position can be based in Buffalo, Rochester, Saratoga
Springs, Brooklyn, Staten Island or Selden, NY.
- Some evening hours required; weekend hours may be
- Occasional travel may be required to fulfill department,
division, and college-wide commitments.
