The University of Maryland, Baltimore, Office of Administration & Finance (A&F) is currently recruiting for an Executive Director, Diversity and Inclusion. A&F is the largest administrative unit at UMB, with over 700 employees.

Primary Duties:

  • Under the direction of the Chief Business and Finance Officer and Senior Vice President, the Executive Director will provide strategic direction, operational planning, and oversight and management of the ongoing development and growth of a comprehensive diversity and inclusion office, involving multicultural leadership, focused on the division’s development of cultural proficiency and humility, increasing staff engagement, productivity, retention, and progression.
  • Organize and coordinate efforts to address inclusion across all units within Administration and Finance by creating robust inclusion plans (and/or updating and consolidating existing plans) for all staff and stakeholders and monitoring implementation and effectiveness of these plans.
  • Lead and assist in developing and executing the strategic direction to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion for the division’s success.
  • Partners with senior leadership in A&F to continuously evaluate policies, procedures, reports, and publications, and works with policy owners and program administrators to modify as appropriate to reflect equity and inclusion principles and to ensure that policies address ongoing and planned initiatives.
  • Develop communication strategies that define equity, inclusion, and engagement, affirm their importance, and articulate leadership’s commitment to achieving excellence in these areas.
  • Focusing on inclusive excellence, design and implement training programs, workshops, and other experiences for division staff personnel to ensure the organization reflects the community and constituents it serves.
  • Oversee, supervise, and support areas that offer wide interprofessional experiences, programming, service learning, and community engagement, with a particular focus on underrepresented groups among our staff.
  • Develop and share with stakeholders, both internal to A&F and throughout UMB, a dashboard/set of metrics to ensure accountability, tracking, and monitoring of program effectiveness.  As needed, conduct assessments and surveys.
  • Support and collaborate with the senior leadership in improving hiring and retention of a more diverse and inclusive workforce, developing best practices for hiring, engagement, and retention.
  • Continuously listen and collaborate with constituents across campus, in the community, and globally to continually understand the diversity and inclusion landscape.
  •   Performs other duties as assigned, such as dissecting climate survey data to increase staff retention, productivity, engagement, and morale.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant field such as Education, Administrative Science, Law, Health, or Policy. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: Seven (7) years spent progressively building a background in equal opportunity, affirmative action, and Title IX compliance oversight, preferably in an academic setting.

Supervisory Experience: Five (5) years of prior managerial or leadership experience, preferably in a diversity, equity, or inclusive role.

  • Oversee overall direction of A&F diversity and inclusion projects and initiatives that have significant division impact as designated by the Senior VP.
  • Oversee and executive strategic diversity and inclusion goals that directly align with University EDI strategy.
  • Thorough knowledge of position requirements. Thorough knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws.
  • Proven ability to research highly sensitive issues that require sound judgment, strict discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.
  • Able to foster relationships with co-workers, university stakeholders, and others to advance divisional equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to support a mission and strategic vision.
  • Instructional, training, and teambuilding skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships.
  • Skill in consultation and change management.
