Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform blood processing in support of the activities of the Johns Hopkins COVID Biospecimen Repository


  • Basic blood separation and processing which includes: receipt and organization of various samples from multiple cohorts spread across the JHM system, effective communication with internal/external study teams, labeling of storage vessels (tubes/boxes, etc), monitoring and maintenance of inventories derived from these efforts, and pulling aliquots from freezers to satisfy researcher’s request for various study samples. The qualified candidate must be familiar with standard Microsoft Office products, with particular familiarity with Excel preferred. A keen attention to detail will assist with the maintenance of accurate data records.

  • Operating basic laboratory equipment including but not limited to: serological and micropipettes, centrifuges, analytical balances, light microscopes, and laminar flow hoods. Potential exists for growth within this role to eventually support these various studies through sample testing utilizing assays such as ELISAs and quantitative PCR. These assays utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as flow cytometers and thermal cyclers, for which training on how to operate these instruments will be provided. Maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment, e.g. calibrating, alignment.


  • Monitors general lab inventory levels and orders materials/supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures. Confirms order accuracy upon receipt.

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred
