Essential Functions (Job Duties)
Supports achievement of TRIO Educational Talent Search program objectives to significantly increase the enrollment of Educational Talent Search participants in postsecondary education in collaboration with Wayne State University, other educational opportunity programs, public, private, and community organizations, and private sector partners. The Educational Talent Search Program at Wayne State University helps students succeed academically in middle school, high school, vocational school or college. It assists students with college preparation and enrollment, provides early intervention counseling and works to obtain and disseminate current scholarship and financial aid information to low-income and first-generation college students. Two-thirds of the program participants must be low-income and potential first generation college students. Reports to Director.

Supports achievement of Educational Talent Search program objectives set forth in the approved grant application and assesses, documents and improves program operations in compliance with Wayne State University policies, and state and federal regulations governing the management and administration of the programs.

Oversees, supervises and provides overall leadership and direction to staff. Sets expectations & focus, assigns duties, delegates ‎‎responsibilities, evaluates activities, prepares performance ‎appraisals & professional development plans. Provides coaching, mentoring and teaching. Manages the ‎‎administrative process for assigned staff including hiring, ‎promotions, terminations, disciplinary procedures, and ‎and salary ‎‎adjustments. Provides ongoing performance feedback, goal setting, and development plans for staff. ‎‎‎Plans for future staffing needs. Provides timely communications to staff. Ensures accountability, provision of accurate and timely participant services and service delivery. Ensures transactions for all academic and non-academic staff within Educational Talent Search are performed in compliance with Wayne State University, and U.S. Department of Education policies and procedures.

Oversees and completes grant proposals, annual performance reports, budgets, and cash requests required by the Office of Federal TRIO and U.S. Department of Education.

Prepares, allocates and monitors budget expenditures from Wayne State University and U.S. Department of Education grants.

Tracks and monitors participation by Educational Talent Search parents, students and target school personnel.

Promotes Educational Talent Search program and program objectives throughout the University community. Develops and maintains social media presence to facilitate communication with students, parents and school-partners.

Oversees Educational Talent Search/Michigan Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs collaborations including related administrative activities.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Unique Duties

Qualifications
Education Master's degree
Requires a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Requires 2 or more years experience teaching, leading workshops or providing counseling at the pre-college level.

Requires experience working with a diverse population and knowledge of grant writing, administration, and management.

Experience supervising professional staff represented by a collective bargaining agreement is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated commitment to equity and access in higher education,
Experience working with 8th to 12th graders, middle/high school personnel, and parents
Knowledge of educational needs and barriers facing K-12 populations and experience in helping overcome them.
