Faculty Position in Experimental High-Speed Aerodynamics

Tenure-Track Faculty Position

In the Department of Mechanical Engineering

Florida A&M University – Florida State University

College of Engineering

 (Permanent, Tenure Track Position)

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the city of Tallahassee, Florida, in Experimental Aerodynamics.  This position is at the assistant professor level, but well-qualified candidates will be considered at a higher rank.

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the unique combination of two outstanding universities with overlapping but distinct missions - the Nation's top Historically Black College/University with a Tier-1 research university. As such, we provide an exceptional research and entrepreneurship-driven education to one of the most diverse student populations in the US. Faculty members are employed by one of the two partner universities but hold joint faculty privileges at both institutions.

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline, demonstrate the ability to create and sustain an internationally recognized research program in their field of expertise, and have a strong interest in engineering education. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a robust externally funded research program, have a strong commitment to diversity and teaching excellence in undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in college and professional service. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers preventing full participation of members from historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities in higher education.

The ME Department currently has about 32 faculty, 100+ graduate students, ~400 undergraduate students, and annual research expenditures exceeding $6.5M. The Department has outstanding research facilities housed within the Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP) including low-speed and high-speed (Subsonic through Hypersonic) wind tunnels, high-speed jet facilities, advanced flow diagnostics, and high-performance computational resources. The Department has a collaborative and collegial work environment and a strong dedication to diversity and excellence in research and education.
