Affiliated (Part-Time) Faculty Special Topics in Ethics or Value Theory: Problems of Exclusion
Join our community and experience Emerson College!

The Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies at Emerson College is looking to fill two sections of one course for the Fall 20222 semester, Sept 2, 2022-Dec 16, 2022. The available course is: Special Topics in Ethics or Value Theory: Problems of Exclusion (PH 203).

PH 203 Special Topics in Ethics or Value Theory: Problems of Exclusion: This course examines the difficulties of solving fundamental conflicts of value in pluralistic societies like ours. Taking as test cases the challenge that religious discourse poses to a predominantly secular political culture, as well as the problems of gender and racial oppression, we will reconstruct the efforts that ethical theorists have made to cope with the effects of radical individualism and the presence of competing conceptions of what is good and just.

The course fulfills the Ethics and Values Perspective.

For the Fall 2022 term, one section of Problems of Exclusion (PH 203) is scheduled to meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am-11:45 pm, and the other section is scheduled to meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Noon-1:45 pm.

Enrollment for each course section is capped at 35 students and both will take place in person on the Boston campus.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Emerson College is committed to an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity—in people, in the curriculum, in the co-curriculum, and in the college's intellectual, social, cultural, and geographical communities. Emerson endorses a framework of inclusive excellence, which recognizes that institutional excellence comes from fully engaging with diversity in all aspects of institutional activities. Therefore, we strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching, research and service that they can contribute to our excellence in this area.

Complete applications that include cover letter, CV, and evidence of teaching effectiveness will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Please indicate in your cover letter whether you wish to be considered for one or both sections and for which section meeting times you are available. A Ph.D. in a related field (granted by the Sept 2nd start date) is preferred.

Any questions can be directed to Dean Amy Ansell (Amy_Ansell@emerson.edu) or Director of Curriculum and Administration Amy Vashlishan Murray (A_Vashlishan_Murray@emerson.edu).
