Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation

Open Faculty Position – Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor Rank


The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation. The incumbent will have a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate department in the School of Medicine and participate in administrative, teaching and research or creative activities. The Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation (ADAE) is responsible for developing and overseeing data driven measures to assess and evaluate all aspects of the undergraduate medical education curriculum of the School of Medicine.

We seek applicants with expertise in the collection, analysis, and reporting of data to support a continuous quality improvement process for the medical education curriculum with extensive previous experience in assessment development and delivery preferably in academic/medical institutions. A focus in educational or psychological measurement is preferred qualification. We seek applicants with knowledge and expertise in advanced statistical and computer applications in educational assessment; expert knowledge in the areas of educational and psychological learning and measurement theory, applied psychometric theory, individual and organizational evaluation methods and practice, professional guidelines, and practices; previous experience in both assessment development (preferably in the health sciences) and examination administration in a large organization. Knowledge of organizational behavior as it relates to the various components of individual medical educational entities (e.g., courses, departments, administrators, etc.) is a preferred qualification.

This position will also provide leadership and direction in meeting the mission of the School of Medicine.

Successful candidate will monitor and provide direction to medical education staff in the production, scoring, and analysis of the examinations given to medical students across the curriculum. Working closely with the Associate Dean for Medical Education Quality and Integration, the Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation collaborates with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, the Associate Dean for Pre-clerkship Medical Education and the Associate Dean for Clinical Medical Education on the design and implementation of program evaluation activities and provision of relevant assessment data; tools and operations that assess medical students and evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum in meeting measurable educational objectives, strategies, learning outcomes and accreditation standards.

The successful candidate must possess an MD, PhD or EdD degree.
The successful candidate will also be expected to show a record of research or scholarly activities appropriate for the academic appointments in Professor (Ladder Rank), Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate appropriate administrative experience and a proven record of academic and administrative leadership qualities.
