Position: Instructional Designer PT

Location: District Office (100% remote)

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) , the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Dir-Instructional Design, theInstructional Designer-PTis responsible for managing the analysis, planning, design, development and implementation of online courses in alignment with strategic and operational goals. TheInstructional Designer-PTwill lead the effort to create innovative education solutions using sound instructional design methodologies, current technologies and effective project management to meet course development goals. TheInstructional Designer-PTwill work in coordination with faculty to ensure online courses possess quality content as defined by the Quality Matters rubric, universal design principles and current accessibility standards. TheInstructional Designer-PTwill assist faculty with any issues that may arise within the learning management system that is related to course design.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Instructional design, course development and delivery:
    • Assist with writing instructional text, audio scripts and video scripts
    • Knowledge of how to apply Bloom’s Taxonomy to communicate student learning outcomes in the course content
    • Brainstorm creative and innovative instructional design strategies with faculty
    • Create learning objects
    • Provide pedagogical support to faculty during the course design process
  • Provide vision and leadership in the integration of instructional technologies for online
  • programs
  • Research and apply emerging technology and concepts to educational initiatives
  • Manage the development and resources utilized for the integration of all content items into programs to include graphics, illustrations, activities, case studies, learning objects and simulations
  • Establish and adhere to milestones contained within courseware project plans and according to established development standards
  • Identify ways to foster collaborative learning environments between faculty and students
  • Ensure effective assessment approaches and processes
  • Support instructors in the delivery of online programs and courses
  • Prioritize, resolve conflicts, and manage project plans in accordance with timelines
  • Establish positive relationships with faculty Subject Matter Experts (SME) to support discipline applicability in content development

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related field
  • Experience with using the Quality Matters rubric within course design, or certified through Quality Matters, or similar.
  • Three to five years of experience in instructional design and/or curriculum development for online learning
  • Previous experience working in higher education or community college preferred
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2 and/or WCAG 2.1 or current accessibility standards
  • Familiarity and ability to utilize D2L Brightspace
  • Familiarity with Quality Matters and D2L Brightspace learning management system desired
  • Ability to solve problems with minimal supervision and balance multiple projects while working constructively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of the creation, use and deployment of digital media and learning objects
  • Interpersonal, writing and communication skills enabling interfaces with all levels of organization and stakeholders
  • Web and mobile technology skills such as HTML5, XHTL and CSS
  • Proficiency with course authoring software such as Adobe Captivate, 360 Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, InDesign, Photoshop, graphic editing software, and other eLearning software, such as H5P desired
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
