Duties and Responsibilities:

The Office of Information Technology Services at Auburn University at Montgomery, seeks a Database Administrator to provide application administration and database administration services. A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of a stable production, development and testing infrastructure for Oracle databases.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and support relational database management systems and related software to resolve highly complex and/or unique issues without precedent and/or structure.
  • Work on databases using more advanced database administration concepts.
  • Design, architect, and build databases from determining the university’s requirements.
  • Utilize SQL knowledge to assist in the development of data reports and analysis
  • Write and troubleshoot complex stored procedures.
  • Develop innovation, strategies, processes, and best practices.
  • Work closely with programming staff on database design changes to meet business requirements.
  • Act in incident management to resolve active incidents.
  • Review the physical and logical design of databases for optimal database structures, performance tuning, security, and database backup/recovery.
  • Plan and implement pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
  • Create data flow and data lifecycle documentation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The successful candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience in the support requirements of large database applications/systems including performance analysis and tuning of high volume, transaction systems.
  • Knowledge of hierarchical database systems.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the design and implementation of complex database architecture.
  • Extensive experience in programming environments.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Oracle database technologies.
  • Ability to work well independently or as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of new and current technology and trends.
  • Extensive experience with database security protocols.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
