Coordinator for LGBTQIA+ Students



Position Announcement

The Coordinator for LGBTQ+ Students oversees outreach efforts and leadership development programs geared towards historically underserved and underrepresented populations in higher education, including but not limited to students who identify as racial and ethnic minorities, first generation college students, undocumented/immigrants/refugee status, LGBTQIA+ students, and targeted student populations of who may need guidance in transitioning or navigating college systems for a successful experience, timely graduation, and post-graduate success. This position specifically focuses on supporting the LGBTQIA+ identifying student populations and are connected to the Center for Inclusion & Belonging. Responsibilities
  • Design, coordinate, facilitate and assess programs that enhance student engagement, persistence and retention initiatives. Promote diversity, inclusion, and equity, with emphasis on LGBTQIA+ identifying student populations.
  • Coordinate student programming initiatives that connect LGBTQIA+ identifying student populations to resources available on campus, including educational resource materials.
  • Work collaboratively with campus and community-based organizations to develop engagement opportunities that will positively impact engagement, retention, and persistence of historically underrepresented/underserved student populations.
  • Serve as a club advisor for applicable LGBTQIA+ student organizations, designating and facilitating leadership development opportunities systematically throughout the year.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for serving, supporting, and engaging with historically underserved and underrepresented student populations at Utah Tech.
  • Collaborate with other student organizations and campus constituents for coordinated programming and events.
  • Facilitate student dialogues on complex issues related to campus climate, current events, and trends that impact historically underrepresented/underserved student populations.
  • Serve as liaison between LGBTQIA+ student populations and the Booth Wellness Center to improve and provide mental health services inclusive of LGBTQIA+ students.
  • Design and facilitate workshops, trainings and dialogues for departments and organizations across campus on LGBTQ+ and social justice topics, including Safe Zone trainings that address current events as they may impact multicultural communities and recognize intersectionality. Such trainings will be designed and collaborated with AVP of Campus Diversity & Senior Equity and Inclusion Officer, other Center staff, and other campus partners.
  • Fulfill annual objectives for the LGBTQIA+ Resource Center based on best practices in alignment with university and Campus Diversity policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of media and other marketing materials that can be used to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Offer direction for campus and community partners connected to inclusive student organizations.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology, gender studies, student affairs, or related field required.
  • At least two years of successful relevant experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, required.
  • Working knowledge of regional and community partnerships.
  • Ability to speak a second language (beyond English) preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in student leadership development, identify development and intersectionality.
  • Experience in outreach activities and strategic partnering.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently; demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social media technologies; knowledge of Banner, Canvas or other comprehensive higher education-related student database and data tracking/management systems preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, including understanding of FERPA and other regulations that guide interactions with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to integrate technology with student advising and co-curricular assessment preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to build and create relationships with various stakeholders, namely students, faculty/staff, community members, etc.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $41,000 – $44,000 depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of October 2022.
