The Agnes Scott College Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor. The successful candidate will teach courses in creative writing with a specialization in creative nonfiction, serve as the Director of the college’s well-supported Center for Writing and Speaking, oversee the department’s First-Year English Program, and publish regularly in relevant genres. Desirable additional interests include fiction, editing and publishing, screenwriting and cross- or multi-genre work, among others. The successful candidate will join a department that has long featured creative writing at a college in which literature and writing are popular majors and celebrated across campus. They will help to shape a strong creative writing program that includes a reading series, a project-based senior seminar, and an acclaimed Writers’ Festival that is in its 52nd year. For their administrative responsibilities, the new faculty member will receive an annual course release, and so carry a 2/2 load that will include, introductory and upper division creative writing courses, first-year writing, and contributions to SUMMIT, the college’s global learning and leadership development initiative.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to working with a socially and economically diverse student population; possess (or be certain shortly to obtain) a terminal degree in English, creative writing, rhetoric and composition, or a related discipline; have a record of professional success and publications in relevant genres; have experience with first-year writing program assessment and administration; have taught writing at the college level, including creative nonfiction and first-year writing; and have experience teaching, tutoring, or working with multilingual students and facility with cross-cultural communication.
