The University of Missouri (MU) Counseling Psychology program is searching for an individual to fill an open-rank tenure-track faculty position who shares the College’s commitment to quality research, excellent teaching, exceptional service to students and the profession, and to continuous quality improvement in an environment of civility and respect.

The APA-accredited Counseling Psychology training program emphasizes a scientist –practitioner model of training. Continuously accredited by the APA since 1953 and consistently ranked as one of the top Counseling Psychology programs in the country, we offer the M.Ed. (in school counseling, career counseling, and a dual degree Master’s program with NTNU in Taiwan) as well as the Ph.D. degree. We also have successful online programs including the Masters and Educational Specialist in Mental Health Practices in the Schools, M.Ed. in School Counseling, M.Ed. in Positive Coaching and Athletic Leadership, and certificates in Positive Psychology and Multicultural Education. We have international exchange programs with National Taiwan Normal University and Beijing Normal University and host international scholars (doctoral students and faculty at international universities) for short-term visits (1 semester, 1 year). The successful candidate will join a vibrant program and department. Our doctoral students are highly diverse with over 65% identifying as racial ethnic minority, international, or LGBT individuals. The program is affiliated with the Missouri Prevention Science Institute, the Missouri Prevention Science Institute , the National Center for Rural School Mental Health , the Boone County Schools Mental Health Coalition , the Family Access Center of Excellence , the MU Counseling Center , as well as the MU Career Center and has an award-winning national and international reputation in multicultural and cross-cultural work.

The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda that will enhance our existing expertise in prevention science , health disparities, and youth mental health in schools . The candidate would pursue their own line of scholarly research and build on existing track record and potential for securing external research funding. In addition, the new hire could complement our existing research programs to build on the profile of research related to broader needs in the field, including social justice, assessment, and psychological intervention research.

This position will be housed in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology (ESCP).

Appointments: Tenure-track, nine-month appointment beginning September 1, 2023

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Counseling Psychology or a related field by the time of appointment (anticipated September 1, 2023)
  • Licensed or license-eligible (pending state-specific requirements) as a psychologist in the State of Missouri
  • Experience teaching graduate-level courses in Counseling Psychology or related fields
Candidates will be evaluated on the following factors:
  • Ability to pursue an active agenda of research and scholarship with demonstrated success in securing external funding
  • Ability to teach graduate courses in counseling psychology, consistent with program and departmental instructional needs
  • Ability to advise and mentor master’s and doctoral level students
  • Ability to provide research supervision to graduate students in the Counseling Psychology program, and serve on dissertation committees for other students within the department
  • Potential as a leader in coordinating training in the program
  • Ability to provide service to the program, department, college, and the profession
  • Expertise in multicultural/cross-cultural psychology
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity and social justice in the department/university
