Residency and Intern Programs Coordinator

Residency programs provide teacher candidates with the most robust training for success as culturally sustaining educators and meet district hiring needs for our local communities. Over the last few years, the Lurie College of Education developed and implemented teaching residency programs with several local school districts and recently established consortia across multiple districts to establish residency programs in specific areas: Special Education, STEM, Bilingual Education, and Ethnic Studies. We are now looking for a Residency and Intern Coordinator who will oversee and support all aspects of the residency programs in the College. This position includes program management, fieldwork support, and building and sustaining collaborative relationships with each partner organization. The Coordinator will:
  • Partner with district leaders, site principals, and program supervisors to support and mentor residents in their development as teachers
  • Promote the growth of the Residency (including related meetings)
  • Co-plan and co-lead Mentor-Resident Orientation and ongoing professional development for all Residents and Mentors each month.
  • Participate in annual recruitment and application cycles, including participation in interview panels for prospective Mentors and Residents. Support pairing Mentors with Residents.
  • Maintain a database of residency programs (funding, participating district partners, mentor teachers, teacher candidates)
  • Work closely with the Director of Field Experience and other Office of Field Experience members to plan ongoing support and professional development for supervisors.
The Coordinator will also support the Multiple Subjects and Education Specialist intern programs, guiding candidates from application to completion. The Coordinator will:
  • Conduct outreach activities to recruit qualified candidates for the intern program
  • Meet and advise potential and current interns about intern expectations, responsibilities, and program plans.
  • Review intern application qualifications; conduct interviews to determine if an alternative certification pathway is appropriate for the candidate.
  • Collaborate with school districts to hire and support intern teachers; this entails regular communication with Districts and establishing new MOUs as needed.
  • Collaborate with districts/schools to provide the intern with an on-site support provider to meet regularly with the intern to provide support and document their progress.
  • Work with interns to ensure support and supervision for working with bilingual/multilingual learners is provided and documented (CTC PSA-06).
This is a non-teaching position that is aligned with the work of the departments of Special Education and Teacher Education and informs the teaching and curriculum development of these programs.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with school districts in building partnerships.
