This role is a 3 (Three)-year, Grant-Funded Role.

Academic Coaches working in the area of Academic Recovery, support students who are experiencing academic difficulty (warning, probation, dismissal) holistically with goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organizational skills, self-regulation and self-efficacy. The Academic Coach empowers students to develop skills, behaviors and habits that contribute to success in college, thus promoting program outcomes of increased student retention, success and completion.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Academic Coaching and Student Support

Provides direct academic coaching to students in all majors who are experiencing academic difficulty. Facilitates student learning strategies in traditional and online courses, in one-on-one and group sessions, both in-person and virtually.

Maintains a thorough knowledge of multiple instructional methodologies to accommodate various student learning styles. Helps students understand and use effective reading and learning strategies.

Creates, facilitates, and presents workshops (virtually and in-person) for students. Motivates students to take ownership of their own academic success; empower students to effectively communicate with faculty and student services and become better connected to resources and support services.

Supports students academically by identifying strengths and weaknesses and designing appropriate activities to improve their learning. Specific areas of support can include improving time management, goal setting, forming productive habits, creating an organizational system, improving stress management and overcoming academic anxiety, and developing study skills.

Academic Coaching Case Management

Advises student as they develop an individualized academic learning/study plan; help students develop and apply learning and study skills for short-term and long-term academic success.

Responds to faculty-submitted and automatically-generated alerts for an assigned caseload of students. Partners with academic advisors and faculty colleagues to support individual student progress and needs, especially students needing additional college

readiness support or those experiencing academic difficulty (warning, probation, and academic dismissal). Documents student interactions in appropriate college systems in an accurate and timely manner with the goal of continuous improvement.

Potential opportunities to work with international students in individual meetings to help develop fluency through conversation and provide feedback on the English language skills of multilingual students. In these cases, collaboration with existing ESL and international student support staff would be integral to the success of the students.

Data and Reporting

Provides reports and other analytics regarding student interactions including attendance, academic progress, interventions, etc. to colleagues for evaluation purposes.

Utilizes data to track activities, evaluate effectiveness, to make recommendations for institutional and department changes and improve ongoing, personalized support. Engages in ongoing program evaluation based on data and student feedback with a focus on learning outcomes. Identifies best practices from peer institutions, industry partners and communities of interest that support the overall project scope and quality.

Completes project reports including updates on internal and external partnerships with ongoing data management to document student progress. Collaborates with Advisors to prepare and present status reports to all levels of management.

Building Relationships and Partnerships

Maintains excellent working relations with stakeholder partners, the community, students, and internal contacts as a representative of the department, and of the College. Collaborates on relevant projects as needed.

Creates, facilitates, and presents workshops (virtually and in-person) to assist faculty and staff and engage students in the learning process. May also assist with the creation of learning communities.

Attends all required department meetings and training. Participates in other student success initiatives or projects as needed. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices.

Knowledge of: college student development, academic assessment and advising practices; coaching and counseling students, instructional and mentoring techniques; college and community resources; FERPA; cultural diversity; processes and resources for organizing and leading group and collaborative activities; traditional and online course practices and procedures, and expectations of students; trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position; computers and job-related software and technology tools, including cloud applications, Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), student
information systems and records systems.

well as confidentiality of student files and other sensitive subject matter; speak effectively to large groups.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, human services, or related field. One (1) year of teaching, tutoring, and/or academic support experience in a college environment; can include work done in a graduate assistant role as professional experience. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
