Accounting Technician

North Carolina Central University

Closing Date: 8/19/2022 at 11:55 PM

Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position in the travel office is to assist in the reimbursement of an employee's travel on behalf of the university. The Accounting Technician reviews and confirms the business purpose of university travel and through policy reviews and regulations verifies that a claim is valid. This validation cross references generally accepted accounting principles, State policy and NCCU regulations before approving any university business-related travel for which the university incurs expense (airfare or car rental charged to a university purchasing card) even if the traveler requests no reimbursement. Hence, this position requires a working knowledge of account principles and practices. It requires the ability to understand, interpret and apply regulations and policies to provide better customer service to University travelers and to prevent or resolve issues of noncompliance.

Minimum Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess:
  • A working knowledge of Banner or an equivalent system
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint) Applications
  • Knowledge of accounting and accounts payable practices and principles
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • To take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion
  • To exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving
  • Excellent analytical skills along with written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent editing skills
  • Great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.
