Context of the Job:

The mission of the Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics is to deliver an inspirational education and pioneering scholarship, building an inclusive community that beneficially transforms business and society.

The Lerner College is home to five departments with 17 undergraduate majors and 16 undergraduate minors, serving approximately 3,300 undergraduate students.

The Office of Undergraduate Advising & Academic Services, a unit within the Dean's Office, manages the effective delivery of undergraduate recruitment, academic advising, and related student support services.

Reporting to the Sr. Assistant Dean and in partnership with the UD Admissions Office, the Manager of Lerner Undergraduate Recruitment is responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing the recruitment activities of our undergraduate degree programs to recruit a competitive and diverse incoming class composed of freshmen, transfers, and international students.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with admissions and college leaders to set admissions targets.
  • In partnership with the office of admissions, develop strategies, programs and events to effectively recruit and yield students for the college, with a focus on increasing diversity.
  • Manage and strategize all aspects of Lerner's annual recruitment process. Plan and oversee all recruitment, yield activities and events, both virtual and in-person, at the university and college level, in conjunction with academic advisors and in close collaboration with the office of admissions.
  • Cultivate relationships and communicate effectively with prospective students and their families both in-person and virtually. Engage with families during campus visits and tours and serve as their liaison throughout the admission cycle.
  • Coordinate college faculty, staff and student representation for university-wide and college open houses and various other recruitment events such as Blue and Golden Days, Decision Days, Transfer Student Open Houses, Destination Delaware and Distinguished Scholars. Provide content for event presentations.
  • Oversee Lerner's Ambassador Program, a paid group of undergraduate students that assist in promoting the college via recruitment events. Provide strategic recruitment, selection, training, mentoring, and supervision of this critical group.
  • Develop and oversee tours of Lerner facilities for scheduled events for potential students. Provide information to Lerner Ambassadors regarding tours of the college.
  • Collaborate with the Lerner Communication team to develop a yearly communication plan, messaging, brochures, social media, Lerner swag, etc. for prospective students through all stages of the recruitment and admission process. Develop annual talking points and value propositions to be used by administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • In conjunction with Institutional Research and the Lerner Communication team, provide data and content for ranking publications such as Poets & Quants and U.S. News & World Report.
  • Evaluate efforts and quantify successes; provide recommendations to make future recruitment activities more efficient and effective.
  • Interpret complex data and run multifaceted reports related to the various stages of the application process including prospects, applicants, admits and deposits.
  • Serve as Lerner's liaison and partner with UD's Undergraduate Admissions Office as it relates to prospecting, recruitment and yield activities to build freshmen and transfer class each year
  • Cultivate connections with high school counselors, teachers, community college and Associate in Arts advisors.
  • Host secondary and middle schools that request campus visits to Lerner.
  • Collaborate with the Lerner Diversity Council to offer business summer camps to secondary and middle school underrepresented student populations.
  • Represent Lerner at off-campus open houses, academic competitions, and other recruitment events. Visit high school classrooms by giving presentations and recruit at informational fairs.
  • Recommend regular enhancements to Lerner and UD prospective student webpages.
  • Work within the confines of an office budget and make recommendations to the Sr. Assistant Dean for ways in which to monitor and limit expenses.
  • Provide assistance with New Student Orientation activities as new students transition from admitted students to matriculated students.
  • Comply with university policies, procedures, and best practices regarding protecting data and following UD data governance rules.
  • Participate in the Lerner Convocation ceremony.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of higher education.
  • Friendly and approachable individual; self-claimed people person with good sense of humor, strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask; strong initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively and independently and as a team member with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Comfortable and effective at presenting to small and large groups.
  • Experience with event planning, management and evaluation.
  • Ability to gather data, analyze information, and prepare and present reports.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Knowledge of event programming trends and effectiveness for student recruitment and admissions required.
  • Advanced working knowledge of student recruitment at the college level and the challenges of yielding a class.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor teams of undergraduates including organizing and scheduling work assignments.
  • Proficient computer skills including use of presentation, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Experience with Slate or another CRM platform preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

Special Requirements:
  • Evening and weekend work will be required throughout the year.
  • Some travel may be required. Valid driver's license required.
