About the Opportunity

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Associate Director, Design oversees the project workflow and processes of the design unit within the Enrollment Management Creative Team. They do so by directly supporting the Creative Director in ensuring the highest level of day-to-day functioning, project quality assurance, and supervising and supporting the Design Team. The Associate Director, Design role comprises approximately 60% leadership/ managerial responsibilities and 40% design responsibilities, providing design support to the team as needed.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. They will work as part of a design team that serves both undergraduate and graduate enrollment marketing efforts with creative assets in support of cross-channel marketing campaigns.

The Associate Director, Design is responsible for translating strategic marketing goals into end products that visually align with the Northeastern University value proposition, brand guidelines, and design best practices while achieving results.

The Creative Team is responsible for conceiving, producing, and presenting content across the enrollment lifecycle for both digital and offline marketing vehicles. The Associate Director, Design must bring demonstrable experience managing a team that is expected to be responsive, collaborative, empathetic, and flexible within a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Education: bachelor's degree required, master's degree a plus
  • At least six years of prior design experience
  • Previous supervisory/ managerial experience or training
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Maintains high standards for acceptable design quality
  • Utilizes strong interpersonal communications skills and diplomacy with university partners and colleagues
  • Ability to lead brainstorm, ideation, feedback, intake, discovery, and debrief sessions with team members
  • Ability to use effective conflict management, time management, prioritization, and negotiation skills
  • Exhibits flexibility and patience with colleagues and partners during the entire design process
  • Expert-level mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Premiere, etc.)
  • Animation, HTML5 design, and multimedia art direction and/or production skills are a plus
  • Candidates with experience creating within the higher education marketing space will receive preference
