As part of the commitment to shared governance principles as defined in Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 36 and the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents policies, the Secretary of the University office facilitates, supports, and assists the effective functioning of the faculty, academic staff and university staff in shared governance. The Secretary of the University’s Office provides the technical and administrative support to assure that faculty, academic staff and university staff have the structure and information necessary for them to carry out their governance responsibilities. The Secretary of the University’s Office provides services assuring confidential and neutral processes.

Job Summary
The Commencement Manager is responsible for planning and executing commencement activities including monitoring and tracking event budgets. This position also contributes to the department's mission and goals by providing executive and professional support to faculty and academic staff governance groups by assuring faculty and academic staff are provided the structure, knowledge, and data necessary to successfully fulfill their governance responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proven proficiency with computer software and/or applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Experience in event planning and/or project management
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Skillful management of multiple priorities and ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail, self-directed initiative, and resourcefulness
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Effective independent judgement and decision-making ability
  • Capability to coordinate/collaborate with internal partners and external vendors
  • Experience working within an institution of higher education
  • Familiarity with governance structure at UWM or other UWS campus
  • Proven ability to excel in a team environment while capable of making judgements and decisions with minimal supervision or independently
  • Experience with web development
