Job Description
- Obtain vital signs and assist with various procedures
- Maintain clinic flow
- Answer patient questions/concerns
- Chart review
- Respond to general patient inquiries regarding treatment and clinic policies and procedures
- Prepare patients for the health care visit by accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; positioning patients for examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment
- Verify patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment
- Support care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood; preparing patients for x-rays; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings
- Educate patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions, answering questions
- Complete records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results
- Maintain stock levels and order clinic supplies
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
- Consistently communicate in a professional and courteous manner
- Provide in-service training and precepting as directed
- Perform related duties as required
- May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents
- Graduation from a medical assistant education program or equivalent military experience is required.
- Must possess one of the following certifications:
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Medical Technologist (AMT)
- Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for competency Testing (NCCT)
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (MRCMA) by the National Assoc for Health Professionals (NAHP)
- Medical Assistant Certification (MAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
