Curator I - Roots of Knowledge

Summary:

In support of that mission, the Fulton Library provides user-centered services, various learning spaces, and essential resources, including the Roots of Knowledge art installation.
  • The library's Roots of Knowledge department offers engaging careers that intersect art, history, and education. Located in the Bingham Gallery, Roots of Knowledge is a sweeping stained-glass exhibit of human history and evolution. Our dynamic team of curators, docents, and administrators seek to uplift UVU's engaged learning model through educational resources that illuminate and inspire. Host to docent-led tours, university events, and the bi-annual Speaker Series, Roots of Knowledge is both a key public service and an artistic landmark.


What you'll be doing:
  • Formulate the overall direction and long-range goals with enthusiasm for the mission and for the opportunity to innovate arts engagement in a dynamic learning environment.
  • Provide leadership for an active department, including several part-time and student employees.
  • Engage with guests through presenting lectures, workshops, demonstrations, guided tours, digital presentations, and other related programming.
  • Contribute to general scholarship, research, and other materials related related to the stained glass.
  • Direct and coordinate programming for a variety of audiences.
  • Collaborate with the library's marketing team for communication and outreach.
  • Assist students with projects related to Roots of Knowledge.
  • Evenings and weekend hours may be required.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in art history, history, museum studies or a related field.

Evenings and weekend hours may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of art, as well as an in-depth, specialist expertise in art history or public history.
  • Working knowledge of current museum best practices.



Skills:
  • Superb project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work well with guests, colleagues, and other employees.
  • Presentation skills that make content engaging for guests from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications and other educational software.

Abilities:
  • Ability to supervise and lead employees in a productive, highly visible, and innovative service area.
  • Outstanding customer service ability with enthusiasm and positive energy, especially during busy situations.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, be self-directed, and multitask to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to conduct research to locate quality information to support projects.
  • Ability to be innovative and provide creative solutions.


Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master of Arts in Museum Studies or Public History, or related field.

Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time; to speak and interact with patrons for extended periods of time and frequent fine hand manipulation typical of the use of a keyboard for a computer.
