JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis is accepting applications for an Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving. This is a full-time, exempt staff position.

The Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving is a member of the Office of Advancement, reporting to the Vice President of Advancement. The Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving will serve as a member of the senior management team of the Office of Advancement, leading all planned giving efforts, including planned giving training for the advancement staff. The Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving will manage their own portfolio of planned giving prospects, assist other advancement team members in securing planned gifts, and collaborate across campus in special projects and initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive planned giving program for the University of Indianapolis, including communications, events, stewardship and in-person meetings
  • Responsible for securing major and planned gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the University of Indianapolis, its programs, disciplines, and the University, with an expectation of raising a minimum of $2M in gifts annually
  • Create and review gift agreements for the Office of Advancement team
  • Responsible for securing a minimum of 100 visits annually with donors and prospects
  • Identify and establish personal contact with current and prospective major gift donors whose interest and financial capacity have the greatest likelihood of strategically meeting the University fundraising goals, in consultation with the Vice President of Advancement, and the Associate Vice President of Advancement
  • Frequent travel and/or evening and weekend duties are required
  • Collaborate with appropriate advancement and academic staff to develop prospect strategies and build relationships
  • Prepare proposals and solicit donors for gifts in support of the Universitys strategic plan and fundraising priorities
  • Host or co-host receptions and other donor events locally and regionally
  • Provide stewardship of gifts including acknowledgement process, coordinating recognition events, dedications, and working with the Director of Donor Relations on appropriate recognition
  • Manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects resulting in increased giving to the University of Indianapolis
  • Serve as a member of the Office of Advancement senior management team and assist in the creation and review of gift agreements for the Office of Advancement
  • Lead all aspects of the University’s planned giving program and planned giving training for the advancement team
  • Manage other advancement projects and initiatives as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree in related field required
  • 5+ years of face-to-face fundraising experience with a proven track record of securing major gifts
  • 5+ years experience in estate planning may also be considered
  • CFP, Juris Doctor, or other advanced financial certification preferred
  • 7-10 years of experience, in fundraising, development, estate planning, or financial services/wealth management preferred
  • Experience in a multi-year comprehensive campaign is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of current techniques in fundraising for nonprofit organizations, particularly private higher education preferred
  • Previous experience with Blackbaud database preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when interacting with stakeholders from a variety of cultural and professional backgrounds
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team coupled with excellent relationship building, time management and organizational skills
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel across the United States as needed
