GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The purpose of the Simultaneous Interpreter is to translate into
Brazilian Portuguese the Early Childhood content being taught at
the same time in English. The Simultaneous Interpreter will provide
accurate concepts and explanations, with no additions or omissions,
carefully modifying material to account for the original tone and
context of translated data and communicate the lessons with
efficiency and clarity. The Brazilian Portuguese ECE classes are
being conducted on Zoom during the Fall 2022 Semester.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Meet at minimum weekly with ECE Instructor to prepare for
upcoming class, identifying terms and definitions that may need
slight modifications in the translation to keep proper context,
meaning, and tone.
Attend class each week and simultaneously interpret lesson
being taught, with careful attention to providing proper context,
meaning, tone, and technical wording.
Keep all information on student confidential, per the
requirements of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy

Attendance (SSTA) weekly, or paper timesheet, as required for

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Demonstrated experience in a bilingual environment
(Portuguese/English) as a Simultaneous Interpreter.
A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education,
Psychology, or closely related field, with appropriate areas of
Bilingual/fluent in English and Portuguese; effective
communication skills and the ability to explain concepts to others
clearly in both languages.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
applications, Zoom, and Moodle.
The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body,
faculty, and staff.
Demonstrated familiarity with CCCC resources available to
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Certificate, diploma, or other professional formal study of
Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or

education, training, and experience required for the

COMPENSATION : Part-time, up to 18 hours per week; $30 per
hour. Grant funded, non-benefited, non-unit position.
