Adjunct Faculty in Mathematics

Job Summary

The Department of Mathematics at Elmhurst University in the greater Chicago area invites applications to join the pool of part-time (adjunct) faculty. We welcome candidates who teach mathematics courses such as liberal arts mathematics, college algebra, precalculus, business calculus, elementary statistics, and the first course in the calculus sequence.
When a position is available, qualified applicants may be contacted for an interview and asked to submit further documentation.

Essential Functions

• Prepare course syllabi for assigned courses based on approved course descriptions.
• Hold regular class meetings that promote active learning and student engagement.
• Create and administer learning activities; assign grades based on clear requirements.
• Be available to students for questions and additional help.
• Follow University and departmental policies.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• An earned master’s or doctoral degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics.
• Expertise in the area of mathematics and/or statistics taught.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with mathematics department faculty, staff and students.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching with a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in college-level teaching in mathematics courses.
• Doctoral degree in mathematics or closely related field preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
