Winona State University invites you to join our Community of Learners as the Dean for the College of Education.

About the Position:  The Dean provides administrative and innovative leadership to Winona State University’s College of Education programs on both the Winona and Rochester campuses, leading a faculty-developed transformation to prepare effective teachers for the 21st century.  The Dean provides overall management to all faculty, staff, and students in the College of Education and is responsible for curricular and instructional quality within the College as well as representing the College to internal and external constituencies.  Additionally, the Dean is responsible for academic leadership of all the teacher education licensure programs from colleges outside of the College of Education. The Dean of the College of Education participates in Deans Council and assists the provost in providing academic leadership to the University.

About the College of Education:  Winona State University holds the honor of preparing teachers for over 150 years. Founded as an institution dedicated to education, WSU became the first Normal School for teacher training west of the Mississippi. The Education Village is the home for the WSU College of Education. Honoring and building upon the historical commitment, proud traditions, and dedication to quality teaching provides a solid future. We believe in the nobility of teaching and the impact our teachers have on children, families, communities and global societies. Our goal as WSU educators is to inspire a love of learning and critical thinking in future generations.

About Winona:  The City of Winona, MN, has a population of just over 27,500 and is nestled between the bluffs and banks of the Mississippi River - one of the most scenic areas in Minnesota. Once one of the Midwest’s most prominent cities due to its location on the river, Winona enjoys a rich legacy of historic buildings and vintage homes. Winona State University is located in the heart of the city, with convenient access to shopping, outdoor recreation, social activities, and community resources. Winona is also home to a wide range of art, music, and theater opportunities, along with museums, collaborative creator spaces, and numerous festivals such as Mid-West Music Fest, Great River Shakespeare Festival, and Frozen River Film Festival.

Qualifications: (1) An earned doctorate degree in one of the disciplines reflected in the college from a regionally accredited institution; (2) At least 5 years of demonstrated successful and progressive experience in higher education including both administrative (e.g. program director, department chair, associate dean) and full-time teaching, and (3) familiarity with state-level teacher licensure processes.
