Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology at Auburn University is seeking applicants for an IT Business Analyst – Data Modeling position.Data Modelerswork with various constituents to align the business needs by connecting data sources, creating data models, analyzing complex datasets and developing data visualizations based on data governance compliance and security policies to provide clean, data used for reporting and decision making. The Business Analyst/Data Modelers work with DBAs, Developers, Architects and Functional Users to design data solutions that meet the organizational needs using conceptual, logical, and physical data models. These solutions are designed to improve efficiency and outputs and may focus on issues such as reducing data redundancies or improving data integration, across systems. This role plays a key part in defining and implementing Data governance and standards within the University for Data warehousing and reporting purposes.

Formal AU Title: Specialist, Information Technology ( III /IV/V)

Essential Functions
  • Establishes collaboration with Institutional Research, DBAs, and subject matter experts to build a data governance framework and maintain an enterprise data warehouse infrastructure to include a data catalog and dictionary.
  • Develops processes for data visualization using Qlik based on the needs of our constituents. Provides hands on training when necessary.
  • Works with Banner subject matter experts and DBAs to establish the process and schedule for Extract/Transform/Load ( ETL ) functions within Oracle and API connections to other third party softwares.
  • Collaborates with Business Analysts to understand the needs and fulfill the data reporting and visualization needs of customers including converting existing reports to visualizations.
  • Enforces data governance policy across Banner and all third-party systems which share data with Banner by collaborating with the data owners across campus.

The Business Analyst position is posted at three levels – III, IV, and V.

Typical salaries for the Business Analyst, Specialist III level are between $43,000 and $55,000.

The Specialist IV position requires a High School diploma and 5 years or more years of relevant experience. Typical salaries are between $55,000 and $67,000.

The Specialist V position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 4 or more years of applicable experience as indicated. The starting salaries for this level are between $64,000 and $77,000.

Levels III and IV: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience

  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills with complex technical subjects and tasks

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field, experience working as a data analyst with functional business units, extensive experience with data visualization, and a deep understanding of data governance. Experience with any of the following: Snowflake or similar data warehouse solutions, GitHub or other code repository, SQL, JSON, IDE software, cloud infrastructures, ETL tools, API connectivity and development, Azure, Logic Apps, Swagger, DataFactory, or Salesforce.
