Residential Learning Coordinator - University Apartments

Supervision: Supervise Assistant Residential Learning Coordinators (Grad Students) and student desk staff members
Teaching and Learning: Develop and implement intentional learning experiences through the implementation of the Residential Curriculum in all university owned apartments. Teach a for-credit, pre-hire student leadership class
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Develop inclusive residential learning communities. Promote equity through the (1) identification and removal of barriers; (2) facilitation of learning; (3) cultivation of community; and (4) empowerment of people.
Leadership: Provide departmental leadership through involvement in department and division-wide committees. Serve as an advisor to residence life student organizations. Take lead on departmental initiatives.

Position Function

Facilitate student learning and development; coordinate residential curriculum model in apartment communities; manage administrative functions in two apartment communities. (There is typically a four-year limit of service as a Residential Learning Coordinator at Ball State.)

Minimum Education

Master’s degree from an accredited institution by September 1 of appointment year.

Minimum Experience

Experience in student affairs, housing, residence life or related field.

Minimum Other

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in discipline represented within student affairs administration or closely related field.

Preferred Experience

Residence hall or apartment administration experience preferably in higher education.

Preferred Other

Pre-Employment Screening

Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.

Duties & Responsibilities



Job Duty

Develop and implement intentional learning experiences through implementation of the Residential Curriculum in all university owned apartments.



Job Duty

Advise, counsel, and establish rapport with students to assist them in adjusting to apartment style living. Assist students and their dependents in developing healthy relationships for their household and the University apartment community. Refer residents to appropriate University or Community Resources.



Job Duty

Collaborate with the Residential Learning Team in developing inclusive residential learning communities. This position must demonstrate an effort to understand their individual and collective role in creating inclusive environments and ensuring a framework of equity and justice is embedded in their day-to-day work. Promote equity through the (1) identification and removal of barriers; (2) facilitation of learning, (3) cultivation of community, and (4) empowerment of people.



Job Duty

Select, train, advise, and supervise Assistant Residential Learning Managers assigned to University Apartments or serving on the apartment on-call duty rotation.



Job Duty

Work with team to develop and implement policies and procedures to insure a healthy and safe environment; build and maintain an atmosphere to promote self-discipline and respect for others through upholding and enforcing university policies.



Job Duty

Perform administrative duties to maintain an efficient functioning apartment community; including apartment assignments, key controls, maintain records; prepare necessary requisitions and reports for HRL .



Job Duty

Work with custodial and maintenance team for turnover and repair of apartments to insure quality product and service to applicants and residents.



Job Duty

Assist the Assistant Director of Marketing in the development and implementation of an apartment marketing and recruitment strategy.



Job Duty

Exercise general supervision of the apartment desk operation including hiring, training, and supervising student desk employees for University Apartment communities.



Job Duty

Monitor the condition of facilities; recommend repairs and alterations as needed.



Job Duty

Participate in the overall planning of the total residential learning program; work closely with other area team members in carrying out services; support the development of budget requests.



Job Duty

Establish relationships with other departments in Student Affairs and the university; assume a leadership position within the department through committee work, activities, liaison work with other departments, and professional and staff in-service activities.



Job Duty

Teach academic course for students interested in student affairs work and housing; work irregular hours; may be called upon to attend events and respond to emergencies after business hours, weekends, and holidays.



Job Duty

Serve in an on-call duty rotation for a designated area on a regularly scheduled basis.
