VETERINARY TECHNICIAN: NIGHT WARD

Salary:

Minimum $18.00 Maximum $28.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
Differential Pay: $3.00/hour night, $1.80/hour weekend, and $4.80/hour weekend night differential on top of the base pay.

Sign-on Bonus of 3-5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid quarterly over the first year of employment (Minimum of $1,800+ for Veterinary Technicians).

Job Summary:

This exciting opportunity provides technical support to the daily operational needs of the Small Animal Area of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Highly qualified candidates will have the following: a minimum of 1 year experience working as a Small Animal technician; possess excellent communication and technical skills; ability to multitask and prioritize while assisting/teaching 4th year students; ability to make independent decisions which can affect the quality/outcome of animal life; function calmly in stressful situations and to work cooperatively with other people. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1) Learns and develops proficiency of technical skills utilized in the area for quality patient care.
2) Participates in review of inpatient cases/treatments and gives assistance where needed.
3) Develops the ability to anticipate and initiate the needs of Clinical Faculty and staff during
procedures/daily operational needs.
4) Oversees scheduling and teaches student hourly employees.

The work is performed under limited supervision.

Tasks:
  • Ensures appropriate charge capture for the services provided to the patients.
  • Assists and participates in the instruction and educational experiences for veterinary students.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies in work area.
  • Responsible for participating in other duties as needed or assigned.
  • Participate in rotating on-call shifts for the teaching hospital in the ER/CCU as needed.
  • Ensures standards of care are met during procedures and pre, peri, and post operative care.
  • Cares for all animals in the area of work. Provides treatments according to treatment sheets.
    Demonstrates good decision making skills.
  • Helps manage the receiving schedules.

Qualifications:

To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or awaiting to sit for the CVT exam, or some CVT working experience with no specialization.

To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 2 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.

To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.

License/Certification:

Preferred
CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician
or eligible to obtain within 12 months

Work Schedule:

Core hours will generally be: Wednesdays & Thursdays, 4:30PM-12:30AM, which may vary based on FTE of hired personnel.

Variable night, holiday, and weekend on-call shifts as required by the hospital.

Part Time: 50% - 90%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.
