This recruitment is being conducted to fill a temporary assignment at Ventura College only and not being conducted to establish an eligibility list from which regular appointments will be made, as such this recruitment may close at any time. Employees hired in this capacity are considered at will and do not accrue property interest in the assignment and are not eligible for benefits.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Under the direction of a Dean or assigned supervisor; oversee students' learning and practicing skills in veterinary nursing and animal care and handling in an instructional live laboratory; tutor, remediate and provide instructional assistance to students; provide assistance to faculty, and perform technical work to maintain the Veterinary Technology program.

Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura - so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

Representative Duties
Oversee and provide instructional assistance to students in the nursing, care, and handling of animals in the Veterinary Technology program. E

Assist faculty in demonstrating and teaching veterinary technology nursing skills in the classroom and laboratory setting. E

Assist faculty with student learning outcomes; tutor and remediate students, provide skills practice and enhancement of students' classroom experience. E

Assist in the administration and scoring of test and class assignments; evaluate, track, document, and report student progress; submit in accordance with deadlines; assign and maintain records of students in skills lab, internships, and student learning lab. E

Prepare, issue and monitor materials, tools and equipment for student use; monitor and maintain records of materials, tools and equipment on loan to or checked out by students and instructors. E

Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, tools, supplies and other teaching aids for demonstrations, practical examinations and student assignments in the nursing, care, and handling of animals. E

Maintain the lab, stock rooms, and other assigned areas in a safe, clean and orderly condition; encourage awareness of and oversee the proper use of the facilities and safe practices. E

Maintain inventory of training and veterinary supplies and equipment; order, receive and arrange for proper storage and handling of food, supplies, and equipment; provide lab materials from stores; inventory materials and assure adequate quantities are available for instructional use; monitor supply budget. E

Assist in the coordination of the overall maintenance and repair of instructional equipment with the Maintenance Department; test, adjust, maintain and perform minor repairs on equipment; send equipment out for major repairs. E

Assist in the admission process. E

Maintain a variety of files and records regarding instructional materials, inventories, purchase orders and equipment repairs; organize, prepare and maintain laboratory procedure manuals; perform general clerical duties as needed. E

Screen, select, train and provide work direction for student workers. E

Use and operate a variety of technical equipment. E

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
An associate degree from a recognized college or university in Veterinary Technology, Animal Science or closely related field AND two years of experience as a veterinary technician, in the nursing, care, and handling of animals AND one year of experience working with students in an organized setting.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Applicants not possessing a current valid Registered Veterinary Technician license from the California State Veterinary Medical Association must have a Registered Veterinary Technician or equivalent license and receive a valid Registered Veterinary Technician license from the California State Veterinary Medical Association prior to completion of the probationary period.
