Job Description

Reporting to the Occupational Safety Programs Manager, the Occupational Safety and Health Compliance Officer will perform comprehensive safety and health inspections, surveys, audits, monitoring, and evaluations to determine compliance with EHS programs and OSHA regulations, including those that are very complex and where extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements and hazard controls is necessary Uses highly complex criteria, data collection, and interviewing techniques. Interprets and applies regulatory requirements and provides guidance to staff. Interviews, observes, investigates workplaces for hazards, evaluates risk, and recommends engineering and administrative controls and personal protective equipment. Documents findings and effectively communicates corrective and preventative measures to various levels of the campus community. Acts as subject matter expert to the campus community for assigned program areas. Supports the university's asbestos, lead, and industrial hygiene program by performing sampling, assessment, and monitoring as needed or required. Performs other duties as needed or required.

Required Qualifications

- An advanced or Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, safety engineering, closely related discipline, or training and/or experience that is an equivalent level of related work experience.
- Experience working in a lead role as a safety specialist.
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards and the interpretations, technical principles, practices, and procedures used to comply with OSHA regulations and industry standards.
- Experience performing safety and health evaluations, audits, and inspections.
- Experience preparing technical reports and professional correspondence.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software.

Preferred Qualifications

- An advanced degree with an emphasis in engineering, safety, fire safety, or related science or equivalent training or experience
- Extensive experience performing safety audits and inspections in both construction and general industries.
- Working knowledge of industrial hygiene project design, evaluation, sampling, analysis, and remediation practices.

- Must be able to navigate stairs and ladders.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds unassisted.
- Must have an acceptable and safe driving record.
- Must have a driver's license check.
- Must be able to wear respiratory protection and must participate in the university medical surveillance program as needed or required.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
