Job Description

Job Summary

Buyer I, under supervision, performs entry-level, standard purchasing duties with the purpose of obtaining supplies, equipment, and routine services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Procures goods and services.
  • Prepares specifications for purchases.
  • Receives requisitions, secures bids, tabulates, and makes award on standard purchases.
  • Maintains records and files of requisitions, bids, and awards processed.
  • Issues purchase orders according to proper policies and procedures.
  • Ensures accuracy of purchases.
  • Returns incorrect/damaged shipments to vendors and resolves inquiries and problems relative to solicitation/procurement actions.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Assists with department webpage, reporting and training responsibilities.
  • Serves as a resource in solving customer or vendor problems.
  • Participates in the goals of the Historically Underutilized Business (HUB Program).


Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.
  • Experience - No prior experience required.


Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience working in an office setting.
  • Experience in providing customer service.


Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Standard business terms and arithmetic.


Ability to:
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.


Preferred Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to:
  • Multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Think independently and evaluate information.


Licensing / Professional Certification - None.

Physical Requirements - Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.

Salary: $14.53/hourly
