Job Summary
The Financial Specialist II, under general supervision, provides advanced clerical, accounting, and customer service support duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Records, sorts, verifies, enters, and retrieves financial
data.
- Provides customer service and/or accounting related
duties.
- Acts as a resource regarding financial matters.
- Exercises transactional approval.
- Compiles statistics and data.
- Audits transactions.
- Assists with writing and implementing standardized
procedures.
- Applies and enforces rules and regulations.
- Researches and resolves problems and discrepancies.
- Provides periodic guidance and acts as a resource to Financial
Specialist I, Financial Assistants and Student Workers.
- Maintains files and records.

Additional Responsibilities
- Prepares daily bank deposits.
- Prepares journal entries (JEs) for clearing
accounts.
- Prepares requisitions for departmental vendors.
- Reconciles Federal Financial Aid accounts using Banner and
FAMIS.
- Reconciles student refunds using Banner and
BankMobile.
- Uses the Federal G5 system to request Federal funds.
- Conducts working fund audits.
- Maintains the department's website.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Arts with Major in Mathematics.
Experience - One year of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
One or more years' experience with:
- Banner student system.
- FAMIS accounting system.
- State of Texas Uniform Statewide Accounting System
(USAS).
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Word processing, spreadsheet, and database
applications.
Ability to:
- Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
Licensing / Professional Certification - None.
