Position Summary:
The Director of TRIO Student Support Services will oversee the Office of Student Support Services and supervise the work of all employees in that office. The TRIO SSS Director will serve as the budget manager for the TRIO SSS Office and will approve all expenditures related to the program activities. The Director will work with relevant SU staff to collect data on eligible TRIO SSS students and track the academic performance of students in the program. The Director will support the provision of academic and social programming for TRIO SSS students, including the summer bridge program, the alumni mentor program, the provision of academic tutoring, and cohort-building activities throughout the year. The Director will support TRIO SSS students as needed.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Leading the SSS office
  • Coordinating and collaborating with faculty and staff, including the Center for Academic Success
  • Managing the SSS budget
  • Developing academic and social supports for SSS students
  • Advising students as needed
  • Recruiting students to participate in Susquehanna's SSS program
  • Communicating about the program in and out of the SU community
  • Supporting grant reporting to the Department of Education
  • Tracking academic performance of all SSS students
  • Helping to recruit and support alumni mentors
  • Supporting students in applying to graduate and professional degree programs

    Required Qualifications:
    Education
    A graduate degree in higher education administration or organizational management or an area with demonstrable relevance to supporting low-income, first-generation, or students with disabilities in a college setting required.

    Experience
    Two years of prior experience working in academic support services or student support services at an accredited college or university is required.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
    The Director should be able to effectively communicate about the TRIO SSS program with a large and varied audience with skills in written and verbal communication. The Director should have financial management skills to manage the budget. The Director should be able to facilitate and participate in teams, including both faculty and staff.

    Physical Demand
    Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires occasional stooping, crouching and bending. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Working conditions are indoor.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience
    Experience working with a TRIO program or another federally funded program designed to support student retention, prior success in improving the retention and graduation rates of college students, prior experience in programmatic assessment; and a similar socio-economic background to SSS participants is preferred.
