Position Overview:

Assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using tools of the trade, . Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, and/ or appliances. Keep records of work assignments. Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. Maintain or repair plumbing by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged drains. Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels. Measure, cut, thread, or bend pipe to required angle.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Monitors all areas served by the irrigation and plumbing system in order to diagnose and repair, replace or adjust all malfunctioning components of the irrigation system, including but not limited to welding and plumbing repairs, valves, main lines and lateral lines on a daily basis. Ensures the efficient operation of the system at all times and takes immediate action whenever there is a problem and has it rectified. Programs, repairs, and maintains each irrigation, plumbing, and welding system to make sure that each station is properly functioning. Welds for install and repair of structural and non-structural items on campus. Makes repairs to all types of steel, cast iron, stainless steel and aluminum. Repairs are primarily to building railings, bollards, and making repairs to various metal items and structures. Observes communicates, complies with and enforces Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) provisions; analyzes supplies and materials used in the performance, training and duties of subordinates of the trade. Available to help with a facilities emergency. This may necessitate the use of a radio for after hour call-backs. Further, a pre-arranged shift change may be implemented for predictable emergencies like inclement weather. Performs duties and complies with needs of special events, before, during, and after the special events are completed. Performs other related duties as necessary

Job Level:

Scope & Impact: This position is for installing, repairing and maintaining the irrigation system by manual labor, tasks for the plumbing department. This position will have an impact on operations of multiple work areas.

Communication & Interaction : Routinely answers questions and provides information and data requested by individuals within or outside of work area.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates ability to operate independently with intermittent supervision for day to day operations.

Problem Solving & Judgement : The job consists of repetitive problem solving skills and performs manual tasks to make those repairs.

Budget Authority: N/A

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for irrigation system and applying organizational policies and procedures and/or determining appropriate process to follow.

Reporting Relationships : Supports the Plumbing Shop in day to day operations and reports to the Plumbing Supervisor or Lead.

Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities : None.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

Requires general education or vocational training and 3+ years relevant experience in chosen field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must pass pre-employment screening.

This position requires a physical. The physical requirements are:
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly and 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry 200 feet.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry up/down 30 stairs.
  • Ability to walk regularly for long periods of time across the campus.
  • Ability to use and reach with hands and arms regularly.
  • Ability to climb in high places using a ladder or balance frequently.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl occasionally.
  • Ability to push or pull dolly loaded with up to 120 pounds for 300 feet occasionally.
  • Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision.
  • Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Pass PFT (pulmonary function test)
