Position Overview:

This position may be primarily performed remotely. In-person attendance may be required for orientation, meetings and recruitment events. This position works closely with the Nursing Department Chairperson and the RN to BS Coordinator. This position provides guidance and counseling to RN to BS track students in matters related to academic goals, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, and course scheduling. Complete degree checks for individual potential students and student groups as needed. Develops and/or completes college/school documents such as information inquiry forms, program information materials, enrollment permission forms, curriculum guides, and graduation forms. Serve as a resource for the university's student database including coordinating input, generating reports, training users, and recommending updates. Maintain the RN to BS database of potential applicants and follows up appropriately. Verify/report student and course information which may include (but are not limited to) class rolls, grades, academic certification of athletes/veterans, statistical analyses, and/or forced drops. Evaluate and/or update student records in order to post grades, do graduation checks, monitor student progress, and advise students on an appropriate course of study. Assist with recruitment of prospective RN to BS students.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Provide guidance to students regarding academic planning by completing degree evaluations, articulating coursework, and assisting with the application process for the RN to BS track primarily through virtual media such as live chat, video chat, email, or social media; create and support initiatives to encourage degree completion. 30%

Serve as a liaison between students and various campus resources such as academic departments, admission committees, graduation support, and academic advising utilizing a holistic approach to student success. Act as a liaison between the Nursing department and RN to BS students. 30%

Act as a liaison to the RN to BS coordinator, attending department meetings and consulting with department chairpersons as needed. As a liaison between the Nursing department and other offices on campus. Participate in recruitment events and represent UCO nursing at recruitment fairs and RN to BS specific events. 20%

Identify enrollment barriers for students and work with internal and external stakeholders to assist students in navigating University processes and support process improvement for UCO Connected Campus student support services. 10%

Monitor and track student records to ensure persistence, good academic standing, and progress toward completion. 10%

Scope & Impact: This position is an intermediate-level independent contributor whose actions may have a significant impact on a department's operations. This position may also affect operations of multiple work areas.

Communication & Interaction : Interacts with various levels within or outside the University to provide service, interpret and explain ideas and concepts, as well as resolve issues.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates functional expertise in a particular domain. Demonstrates ability to operate independently and without supervision for day to day operations.

Problem Solving & Judgement : Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures, generally accepted principles, and methods. Resolves day to day operational issues by collecting and interpreting information. Solutions may include modifying procedures and methods to address new conditions and may incorporate advice and input as needed from supervisor. This role includes broad responsibilities requiring the application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by identifying operational needs and requirements. May assist with research, requirements gathering or other related efforts to develop budgetary requirements.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for applying organizational policies and procedures and/or determining appropriate process to follow.

Reporting Relationships : Generally reports to manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities : May provide functional subject matter expertise and guidance to junior staff.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Health care, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Qualifications Preferred:

Prior academic advising/counseling experience. Familiarity with admission and enrollment process at the University of Central Oklahoma or in an institution of higher education setting and its undergraduate degree programs, particularly the requirements and general value of education. Must be proficient in basic mathematics. Demonstration of a warm and caring professional attitude and creative counseling techniques. Must be self-directed and responsive to student needs. Ability to communicate effectively with potential and current student. Ability to communicate effectively with department chairpersons and/or deans regarding degree program requirements. Ability to work well under pressure. Willingness to work within the academic framework of the University and to serve on faculty and student committees.
