Description

The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for an open rank Professor of Practice -Public Management to begin in Fall of academic year 2023-24 (with an August 2023 start date). One of the nation's top ten programs in public affairs, the LBJ School is seeking to strengthen its faculty in public management. The LBJ School comprises more than 40 faculty members and approximately 300 graduate students, and offers multi-disciplinary curricula leading to the degrees of Master of Public Affairs, Master of Global Policy Studies, and Ph.D. in Public Policy.

The appointee will develop and teach courses designed to equip Master's, Doctoral and possible undergraduate students with the skills needed to successfully manage programs in both government and the nonprofit sectors. The field of study is open, but the LBJ School is especially interested in candidates who will contribute courses in organization theory, policy implementation, human capital management, data visualization, customer service, budgeting and financial management, leadership, and bureaucratic politics that shape the work of public management. The appointee's policy engagement or research will have direct relevance to public management and policy. The appointee will participate in faculty governance in the LBJ School.

This is a three-year contract position with possible renewals that offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Qualifications

Successful candidates bringing substantial practical experience to their application will have an appropriate degree for appointment as a professor of practice. The rank for this position is open. The application should detail the nature of that experience and how the candidate believes the experience can contribute to the education of future public affairs professionals. A description of how the applicant would organize a course on these issues would be useful.
