Job Description

The Kenny C. Guinn Center for Policy Priorities seeks a dynamic Executive Director to lead this nonprofit, non-partisan policy institute into a new stage of growth and development. Founded in 2014, the Guinn Center is now affiliated with the University of Nevada, Reno, and this position is based in Reno. The Guinn Center focuses on conducting independent, data-driven, and well-reasoned analyses of policies that affect all Nevadans and advance solutions toward a vibrant Nevada.

The Executive Director executes the vision of an independent Board of Directors who represent Nevada's diverse industries, demographics, and geographies. As the Guinn Center's chief executive, the Executive Director administers all aspects of the operation from fundraising to strategic planning to contract management. The Executive Director manages the budget, supervises staff located in Reno and Las Vegas, and designs public programs. The Executive Director also maps out and manages the Center's research agenda and production of reports.

Working with a variety of academic researchers and policy professionals, the Executive Director must have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable communicating with diverse audiences. As the Guinn Center's public spokesperson to local communities, and the media, the Executive Director must speak well and write clearly. The Executive Director also oversees the distribution of all Guinn Center publications and presentations to ensure that the Center's quality meets the highest standards.

During its short tenure, the Guinn Center has developed a reputation as a responsible source of trustworthy, non-partisan, evidence-based information about Nevada policies. The Executive Director will continue to build the internal operations necessary to maintain that reputation and position the Guinn Center as a trusted resource for Nevada.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree and demonstrated experience as an organizational leader. Relevant experience includes program management, fundraising, policy analysis, public speaking, and administration of people and programs. An advanced degree is preferred.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five years of related professional work experience.

Related Experience: Program and grant management, fundraising, policy setting, supervision, and management.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree and three years of related professional work experience; OR a Doctorate Degree/Juris Doctor and one year of related professional work experience.

Schedule and Travel Requirements
Frequent in-state travel is required. Occasional out-of-state travel may be necessary.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate.
