The Institutional Research Analyst will support the routine gathering, maintenance, access, analysis, and reporting of accurate and reliable institutional data and information to external and internal constituents. The analyst will provide timely information for planning, internal decision-making and external accountability, including accreditation agencies and federal and state regulatory requirements. Major Responsibilities
General Data Reporting:
  • Extract, collect, analyze, and summarize institutional data using a variety of data sources and tools;
  • Assist and support periodic reporting and data needs related to accreditation (e.g., Middle States, teacher education);
  • Assist and support in responding to supplemental SUNY, state, and federal data requests;
  • Respond to routine data requests from external non-governmental bodies (e.g., NCAA, CUPA -HR);
  • Manage internal IRA databases, maintaining the array of historical data files used by IRA as primary data sources;
  • Assist and support routine internal data reporting, such as the annual academic department data reports;
  • Provide data support for grant applications and reporting;
  • Assist in administration and reporting on results of survey questionnaires and research studies;
  • Assist and support responding to ad-hoc data requests.

Specific Projects:
  • Maintain, update, and enhance IRA Office webpage;
  • Provide support for data submissions to the SUNY Institutional Research Information System ( SIRIS );
  • Coordinate timely submission of annual NY State Education ( NYSED ) report series;
  • Coordinate timely submission of annual federal Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System ( IPEDS ) report series;
  • Assist with federal Title II teacher education reporting requirements;
  • Lead in collection of data for submission of the annual Common Data Set and affiliated data requests to external stakeholders (US News, College Board, Peterson’s, Princeton Review, etc.);
  • Manage campus New York State Certification Examination ( NYSTCE ) data systems and reporting;
  • Assist in producing IRA newsletter.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
  • The Institutional Research and Analysis ( IRA ) Office is a service-oriented unit reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness.
  • Reports to the director of Institutional Research and Analysis
  • Works closely with offices within the Academic Affairs division and throughout the campus
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, including advanced features (e.g., pivot tables, lookup formulas, graphics);
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R);
  • Experience with other Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat;
  • Evidence of attention to detail;
  • Evidence of effective written and spoken communication skills;
  • Basic knowledge of computer database systems;
  • Knowledge of quantitative data analysis and reporting techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree;
  • Two (2) years related experience working in higher education setting, preferably institutional research or assessment;
  • Proficiency with administrative student information systems, preferably BANNER ;
  • Experience updating and maintaining Web pages;
  • Experience with survey design platforms (e.g., SelectSurvey, SurveyMonkey);
  • Experience accessing data through online data query systems;
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and/or complex data reporting tools, preferably Argos;
  • Knowledge of research design and statistical analysis techniques (e.g., t-tests, chi-square, regression analysis).
