The MU Student Health Center (SHC) is a unit within the University of Missouri-Columbia’s Student Health & Well-Being department under Student Affairs. The Student Health & Well-Being area consist of a network of care that includes the Counseling Center, Student Health Center, Wellness Resource Center and Community Providers.

The SHC offers medical care with behavioral health consultation and psychiatry services. As part of Student Health and Well-Being, SHC providers coordinate treatment with counselors at the Counseling Center.

Job Description

This position will be assigned to the call center. Duties include, but are not limited to, answering phone system, handling and/or directing calls to the appropriate area, scheduling appointments, and fielding questions. Additional duties may be assigned.

Candidate must have the following skills:

  • This position will cross train to help in other areas of our center and may help with off-site events.
Collaborate with patients, families and/or staff in handling and resolving problems that may occur during the course of visit.

Communicate any expected delays to patient and ancillary service departments.

Greet, escort, and answer phone system, handle and/or direct calls to appropriate area, and place calls as requested by supervisor. Use excellent guest relations skills in all interactions with patients, visitors and staff.

Maintain the general appearance of the waiting room, reception area, and offices; straighten magazines, chairs and other light furniture.

Validate patient demographics, insurance, pre-certification, prior authorization, referrals; accurately manage copay collections; Patient check-in, check-out, batching, scheduling, bumping, cancelling, and no-showing appointments; effectively utilize computer applications.

Depending upon the location and assigned area of responsibility, additional duties may be assigned.

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Salary

Salary Range: $13.50 - $18.00 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Grade: PAT 3A

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Six (6) months of experience with frontline customer service and guest relations duties and skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a health care setting, hospital admissions, registration, medical office, and use of medical terminology strongly preferred.
