Position Summary

The Administrator will join a small team within the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies that is focused on graduate student professional development and graduate student recruitment to Rice programs. This team broadly works on increasing Rice’s visibility and builds on Rice’s position as an elite destination for graduate study in the U.S. This team also works closely with a number of student groups on campus, at the discretion of the dean.

The administrator will support these initiatives and projects related to graduate student recruitment and graduate student professional development. Within this role, this position will:
  • Plan and execute workshops and webinars related to professional development
  • Mentor students in Texas and beyond on the opportunities that graduate study offers, and through the application process broadly
  • Help to build professional development and social activities for various student groups
  • Create and/or maintain web and social presence for various projects
  • Develop and/or maintain databases of external contacts for recruitment and student development purposes.
  • Acts as a key contact for GPS student development and recruitment initiatives
  • Coordinates activities with staff across schools, offices and departments
Salary:

$38,440 to $50,000

Essential Functions:
  • Administers programs related to graduate student recruitment and professional development with general guidance of a senior staff member
  • Conducts research, analyzes data, identifies trends and develops reports
  • Plans and monitors annual project budgets, assists in the development of longer terms budget plans
  • Recommends and implements programs, including outreach, workshops, communications and event logistics, social media support, etc.
  • Plans and coordinates logistical aspects of recruitment activities
  • Provides support to faculty, staff and students as related to the program
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions:
  • Collaborates across departments and schools to coordinate activities
  • Supports all Rice graduate students and promotes opportunities to be connected to appropriate Rice resources, in order to facilitate students’ development as a scholars and professionals
  • Oversees the development of new resources
  • Supports information distribution as it relates to graduate student development to foster awareness of campus opportunities
  • Supports reporting and data analysis for specific projects and initiatives
  • May serve as the primary staff contact for specific graduate student communities at the discretion of the Dean
  • Fosters connections with Rice alumni and the broader Houston community as beneficial to student professional development
  • Willingness to work a schedule with occasional evenings and weekends for events when needed
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
  • One year of related experience in administration, communication, or education
    • In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
  • Ability to learn new strategies
  • Written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans"
