Assistant Director, Career Education & Advising

Position Summary

The assistant director of career education and advising at the Jones School Career Development Office (CDO) is responsible for managing and supporting business school students throughout their job search process through programs and program development. The individual in this position will help students develop and continually refine a realistic, implementable job search strategy that leads to a successful internship and/or permanent employment through strategic management of programming and assessment of program effectiveness across the full time, professional and online student populations. This individual will also be responsible for developing and implementing programs and workshops in assigned areas, examples include the job or internship search, interviewing, resume writing, or negotiation. This individual will partner to deliver alumni-driven career development programs. The ideal candidate will be focused and be able to work both as a solo contributor and as a valuable contributor to team efforts. They will be driven by a desire to help others develop the tools to achieve their goals.

Essential Functions
  • Develops and executes career education programs for students and alumni
  • Produces progress reports on program initiatives
  • Represents Rice Business at professional associations and meetings
  • Assists with research on current best practices and progressive practices for general and specialized areas of career education programs
  • Assists with maintenance of current or proposed electronic and social media resources
  • Provides support for presentations to student groups and classes on career development issues
  • Provides outreach to faculty and staff to inform of industry, career trends, and relevant career and job search information
  • Assists with general office operations
  • Develops and maintains programming across programs on career development topics
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 year of related experience working in higher education and/or career services, in corporate recruiting/human resources, or corporate/professional services experience, experience in developing and executing programs
Skills Required
  • Oral and written communication skills, diplomacy skills, good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage relationships with vendors and partners internal and external to Rice Business
  • Ability to develop and coordinate presentations
  • Ability to relate effectively with students
  • Good computer skills to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of marketing and advertising programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or Master’s in business, education, or related field
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience providing student services to business school graduate students (i.e. career development, career counseling, advising, program development, etc.) and interfacing with corporate representatives and alumni
  • Strong project management skills
  • Organized, attentive to details, able to juggle multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines required; result oriented work ethic
  • Familiarity with career services platforms such as 12Twenty and Handshake
  • Ability to utilize virtual software platforms, such as Zoom or Teams, to conduct virtual advising sessions and deliver career education content
  • Superior knowledge of MBA career paths and opportunities
  • Thorough understanding of the career decision-making process for highly motivated individuals
