Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for one full-time, tenure track Coordinator/Instructor position in the Pharmacy Technician degree and certificate program within the Business, Health Sciences & Homeland Securities division.  The anticipated start date for this position is October 3, 2022.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will serve as the coordinator and instructor in the Pharmacy Technician program. As coordinator, the individual will be responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, future accreditation and overall effectiveness of the educational program/courses. As an instructor, the individual will teach Pharmacy Technician courses in both the traditional and computerized environment.  The individual will also assess student performance, ensure faculty qualifications and collaborate with Pharmacy Technician faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in the program/courses.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Licensed pharmacist or a nationally certified pharmacy technician; eligible to practice in the State of Illinois.
    1. A pharmacy technician must have graduated from an ASHP/ACPE- accredited pharmacy technician training program OR
    2. Possesses or is actively pursuing, with written plan for achieving, at least an Associate’s degree; OR
    3. Has an appropriate state teaching credential.
  2. Five years of experience as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician in pharmacy practice; minimum of 2 years in hospital-based pharmacy.
  3. One year of teaching experience preferred.
  4. Member of a national pharmacy or education association and a state pharmacy association preferred.
  5. Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
  6. Background in administrative activities including staffing, long-range planning, quality assessment/performance improvement, and evaluation of staff, preferred. 
  7. Experience in accreditation activities, preferred.
  8. Competency with applicable software systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard, etc.) preferred.
  9. Ability to meet, successfully complete and maintain minimum health requirements, drug and/or reference checks required by college and/or clinical facilities prior to and throughout employment.
  10. Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
  11. A valid driver’s license is required.

SALARYThis is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule.  For example, the minimum 2022-2023 starting salary at Step 3 on the Bachelor’s Degree column is $49,699; the Master’s Degree column is $52,742. Voluntary overload teaching assignments and mandatory summer program coordination may increase the annual compensation by 40%.  The College offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.

 

WORK LOCATION:  Belleville Campus with district-wide overload teaching opportunities.  Driving may be required to other campuses, student field experience or internship sites. Driving may be required to reach off-campus sites, visit clinical facilities throughout the region and to attend professional functions within the state of Illinois and the St. Louis region.
