Summary of Job Duties:Responsible for the design, administration and evaluation of academic support services to improve academic success and retention. Provides leadership to staff and develops processes to support retention efforts across the institution. The Director is responsible for the routine operation of the ASC, including mentoring and supervising staff, overseeing tutoring and academic coaching programs, supporting institutional quality initiatives, and recommending modifications as needed. The Director also leads a team who coordinates test administration (for admission, placement exams, and exams for credit), in addition to managing ASC web pages, leading professional development for faculty & staff, and assisting with services for students with accommodations. The position is governed by the policies of the institution. The Director reports to the Assistant Provost for Student Success & Retention.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Work Experience: Minimum of a master’s degree in C ollege S tudent

P ersonnel, H igher E ducation A dministration, or comparable academic discipline with strong job-related experience. Three years administrative experience in higher education with academic support, student retention, and/or instruction.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Experience working with first-generation students and/or families preferred. E xperience with virtual early alert systems (e.g. Navigate/Starfish) preferred . Experience working collaboratively with faculty and/or supplemental instruction programs preferred.

Essential D uties and Responsibilities :
  • Recruit, manage, and retain program staff that provide and evaluate academic support services for UAFS students .

  • Provide leadership regarding campus success initiatives and testing services, including significant collaboration with campus units to research, design, impl e ment, and evaluate services to improve onboarding, retention, and graduation

  • Serve as member of the Student Success & Retention team, collaborating on institutional initiatives, research, and professional development

  • Coordinate and supervise tutor placement process es, virtual tutoring, and academic coaching, leading to improved, proactive interventions and supports .

  • A nalyze data, prepare regular reports, and provide oversight for all ASC expenditures and services .

  • Provide positive, effective leadership to promote continuous improvement, develop collegial relationships with other departments, and handle customer service situations in a professional manner.

  • M onitor the ASC website, design training and marketing materials for stakeholders, and ensure computer software is maintained to support course and testing needs.

Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to staff . Requires consistent on-time attendance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:
  • Knowledge of established procedures and techniques in the field of student success, including emerging practices within higher education, enrollment management, student learning, and retention.

  • Knowledge of student development theory, including strengths-based approaches to learning, nontraditional student development, and strategies to improve outcomes for diverse learners .

  • Knowledge of testing procedures for admission, placement, and proctoring.

  • M ust demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as effective planning and organizational abilit ies .

  • Strong management, supervisory, and teambuilding skills.

  • Must demonstrate good judgment in setting priorities and motivating team members toward common goals.

  • Ability to implement program activities in an efficient manner and handle multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.

Additional Information:

Working Relationships: The ASC director works closely with faculty, staff, students, and administrators at the university .

List Employees Supervised: Assistant Director, Academic Coach es (2), Operations Coordinator, Part-time lab assistant, and part-time tutor pool (approximately 12 tutors).

Special Job Dimensions : Work performed primarily in an office/classroom setting. Occasional travel and extended hours required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. Required abilities include walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. Visual demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 10 pound s.

Salary Information:

$58,000/Year
